CERVICAL AXIAL MRI/CT ANATOMY:

The axial view in imaging studies is one of the hardest for the layman to grasp.  To visualize the axial view think of looking through a camera pointing straight down at the top of a persons head.  A 'Birds Eye View'.  The way I always remembered it was by thinking how  an 'Axe' (Axial) chops through the base of a tree.  Horizontal to the ground.

Here is an 'axial view' looking down upon a cervical bone via CT.  This shot also has a contrast dye injected into the Subarachnoid space.  The anatomy has been labeled.

Here we have a MRI axial view of a mid cervical bone - Post
Anterior Cervical Discectomy Fusion (ACDF).  Notice some contact of the anterior aspect of the cord (red arrows) with some slight deviation of the cord to the left posteriolateral aspect of the neural ring (yellow arrow) (Stenosis).
There may also be some narrowing of the right lateral recess (pink arrow) .
